peachs and mint on a white background for simple health habits

We all want to live a healthier and happy life. Sometimes figuring out where to start can be the challenge. Small changes over time have a big effect, even simple changes that take less than a minute can lead to a healthier you.

Below find some small decisions you can make to be healthier every day!

Drink One Extra Glass of Water

Our bodies are made up of over 50% water. We need this water for all our bodily functions to work properly. Your skin will also thank you for this extra glass a day, as dehydration can lead to your skin looking more dry and wrinkled. So drink that extra glass of water as part of your beauty routine, have it next to you while doing your make-up for the day.

Balance on 1 leg Every Day

Age happens, but that doesn’t mean you need to lose function. Take time to balance on each leg, one at a time, for 10 seconds to keep up your balancing abilities. If you don’t use it you’ll lose it. So make use of those commercial breaks and do some balancing.

I know it sounds silly, but really you will be surprised the first time you give it a go at how it isn’t as easy to do as you thought. Something this simple over time can keep you moving through your whole life.

Sit Up Straight

Improving your posture can lower your risk of experiencing lower back pain, increase your energy levels, as well as your focus and concentration.  It is one simple thing, but can be hard to remember.

Write a note on the back of your hand for the day saying “Sit”, and every time you look at it correct your posture. In no time you will start doing it without having to think about it. Your back will thank you for it!

Switch to Carbonated Water

Switching from high-calorie drinks to carbonated water with a drop of flavor can easily decrease unnecessary sugar intake. If you have essential oils that are edible (Not all of them are!) a drop of lemon in carbonated water is very refreshing.

By switching to carbonated water you can start to wean yourself off of high sugar/calorie drinks that are not helping your waistline by any means.

Go On A Walk

A walk a day can keep the doctor away! Making time to get in the habit of going on a stroll can have some huge positive impacts on your physical and mental health. Take the dog for a walk, have a stroll during your lunch break,  or stretch your legs with the family after dinner. A bit of fresh air always does some good, no matter the weather.

Add Greens to Every Meal

Nutrient rich foods in every meal will increase your health. Sauteed spinach with your bacon and eggs in the morning greens up your breakfast.  Having some broccoli with ranch dip or a side salad during lunch is a simple way to add some green to lunch. There are so many green vegetables you can add to dinner, have a different one every night to keep it interesting.

Meatless Monday

A budget friendly and health friendly habit you can start for the whole family. To explain it simply eating red and processed meats is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, as eating a higher amount of fruit and vegetables lowers your risk of type II diabetes as put by Johns Hopkins University. So be kind to your wallet for one day a week and have a meatless Monday…. or another day of the week if that suits you better.

Breakfast Benefits

Speaking of meals, How about you make time for breakfast in the morning! Stop rushing around each morning and slow down to fit in a 10 minute breakfast and jump-start your metabolism to get your energy pumping to begin your day.

When you fuel yourself at the start of the day you are less likely to overeat later in the day. Fit in some protein and fiber in the morning and keep your appetite in check for the rest of the day.
